If you are looking for the perfect evening of sophisticated rhythm and melody, look no further than Heaven’s Door Speakeasy. We are thrilled to announce a special Jazz Night performance featuring the incredible talents of Paul Meyers and James McCreavy.
This isn’t just another gig; it’s a convergence of two deeply experienced musicians who have spent decades shaping the landscape of jazz. Whether you are a dedicated aficionado of the genre or simply someone who appreciates live music in an intimate setting, this performance promises to be a highlight of the season.
Meet the Master of the Six-String: Paul Meyers
Paul Meyers is a name synonymous with excellence in the New York City jazz scene. A busy freelancer, sideman, and bandleader since 1980, Meyers brings a wealth of history and technique to the stage. His career is a testament to his versatility and skill, having performed and recorded with a staggering list of jazz greats.
His resume reads like a hall of fame induction list, featuring collaborations with legends such as Geri Allen, Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, and Wynton Marsalis. For years, he held down the rhythm and harmony in a quartet featuring Frank Wess until Mr. Wess’ passing.
Beyond his work as a sideman, Meyers is a celebrated leader in his own right. Since 2004, he has led the critically acclaimed Brazilian Jazz group, World on a String. His affinity for accompanying vocalists is also well documented; he toured extensively with two of the greatest jazz singers in history—Jon Hendricks (1993-2016) and Andy Bey (1997-2008), appearing on three of Bey’s CDs.
Meyers’ talent has taken him around the globe. His international resume includes:
Japan and Hong Kong: Performing with the Salute to Duke Ellington Orchestra.
Europe: Touring France, Germany, Switzerland, England, Italy, and more with Jon Hendricks and Andy Bey.
South America: Performances in Brazil and Argentina, where he played with Gary Burton. Notably, Burton recorded Meyers’ tune “Panama” on his Reunion CD with Pat Metheny.
The Smooth Stylings of James McCreavy
Sharing the stage is James McCreavy, a proud member of The American Federation of Musicians (South Florida, Local 655). McCreavy specializes in the timeless music of the American Songbook. His style is the definition of cool—subdued, entertaining, and perfect for a speakeasy atmosphere. Expect a repertoire filled with Bossa Novas, soft rock, and smooth jazz.
McCreavy has an impressive performance history, having shared the spotlight with icons like Perry Como, Steve Lawrence, and Vic Damone. His instrumental collaborations are equally impressive, including work with saxophonists Richie Cole and Boots Randolph, as well as fellow composer Alex Harvey.
He has firmly established himself as both a composer and performer, working with luminaries such as the late jazz organist Dr. Lonnie Smith and multi-instrumentalist Ira Sullivan. Recently, he has been performing with Juno Award Winner Bria Skonberg and currently works in Palm Beach with Flugelhorn specialist Ron Helman for the 2024-25 season.
