Who Is Sierra Band?
Sierra Band is a powerhouse four-piece built from decades of combined professional experience, spanning rock clubs, cruise ships, recording studios, and some of South Florida’s most iconic music venues. The band pulls from rock, pop, R&B/Motown, country, and classic hits, making every performance feel like a custom-built set list for the crowd in front of them. Whether you’re there for the deep cuts or the songs everyone knows by heart, Sierra Band delivers.
Here’s a closer look at the musicians behind the sound.
- Pat Channing — Vocals, Guitar, Bass & Keys
Pat Channing is the heart of Sierra Band’s sound — a vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose musical career started at age 14 in local rock bands. Over the past two decades, Pat has built an impressive resume as a solo and duo performer, and spent 12 years leading the celebrated Jukebox Band, performing for high-profile guests including Wayne Huizenga, Bob Griese, and Rush Limbaugh.
Pat earned the nickname “The Human Jukebox” for his ability to play virtually any song requested, across every genre imaginable. As host of the legendary “Palm Beaches’ Best Open Jam” from 1998 to 2006, he shared the stage with artists like Todd Rundgren, Larry and Lane Hoppen of Orleans, and E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons. Pat’s original jingles and voice-overs have also aired on radio and television across South Florida, earning him composition awards along the way.
With Sierra, Pat plays a Godin LGX-SA guitar, blending acoustic and electric tones through a Boss ME70 effects system for a rich, full-band sound.
- Robert “Bob” Chapman — Bass & Vocals
Originally from Barbados, Bob Chapman began his musical journey on piano at age five before expanding into drums, guitar, and trombone. After moving to the U.S. in 1969, he picked up bass guitar at 16 and launched his professional career two years later, playing clubs throughout West Palm Beach while studying at Palm Beach State College.
Bob went on to tour with show bands across the southeast and released a solo recording in Barbados that received significant radio airplay. In the 1980s, he co-founded Island Sons, a dynamic duo where he played keyboards and sang lead vocals. Since then, Bob has remained a staple of Palm Beach County’s top bands and church ensembles, known for his rock-solid bass grooves and powerful lead and backup vocals.
- Bob Ardito — Keyboards
Rounding out the band’s harmonic depth, Bob Ardito brings his keyboard talents to Sierra Band, layering in the textures and grooves that give the band its full, polished sound on stage.
- Todd Walker — Drums
Todd Walker has been a dynamic force in the drumming world for decades. He started playing at age 11 and was performing professionally by 15 throughout the New Jersey/New York area. Todd studied under renowned instructor Russ Moy and world-famous drummer Ed Shaughnessy of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, building a foundation that allows him to move fluidly between jazz, pop/rock, funk, fusion, country, progressive/odd-time, second line, and rudimental drumming.
Todd’s competitive accolades include a first-place win at the 1994 Music West International Conference’s Pearl Players Drum Challenge, where he performed alongside Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and finalist appearances at Thoroughbred Music’s Annual Drum Expo, judged by legends including Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, and Dom Famularo. He’s been featured in Modern Drummer Magazine and has shared stages and studios with artists such as Clarence Clemons, Chad Smith, and bassist Victor Wooten of Bela Fleck & the Flecktones.
Now based in South Florida, Todd has performed at venues including Sunfest Music Festival, the PGA National Jazz Concert Series, and The Breakers, and brings that same professional energy to every Sierra Band performance.
