The Soulshine Band

“Soulshine: the radiant, positive energy of the soul that shines through a person, especially in adversity, symbolizing inner strength, joy, and authenticity.”

The Soulshine Band is a harmony-centered Americana and rock band based in Southeast Florida. Formed by singer-songwriter Thia Muilenburg in 2022, the band is built around Thia and her duo partner Nick Fallon, with drummer Tommy Strauss holding down the rhythm, and a rotating cast of gifted special guests: Alan Giana, Rob Voorhees, and Matt Granat.

True to its name, The Soulshine Band plays with warmth, joy, and authenticity, bringing lush harmonies and energizing solos to every performance.

The Soulshine Band delivers an entertaining mix of upbeat Americana and rock classics designed to get audiences up on their feet. Their repertoire draws from some of the most beloved songwriters and bands of all time, including:

Steely Dan, Steve Miller, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Seger, Eagles, the Grateful Dead, CSNY, Eric Clapton, Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac, Carole King, America, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne, Tom Petty, Chicago, and more.

What sets the band apart is its vocal blend. With multiple singers sharing lead and harmony duties, The Soulshine Band brings a rich, layered sound to these classics, paired with musicianship that ranges from acoustic rhythm guitar to a rare lap-guitar style, woodwinds, and congas.

Thia Muilenburg founded The Soulshine Band in 2022, after several years of gigging as a solo artist. Drummer Tommy Strauss joined that same year, and Nick Fallon came aboard in 2025, forming the core trio that continues to bring music to South Florida today. Along the way, the band has welcomed a circle of talented special guests who add sax, flute, fiddle, bass, and electric guitar to the mix.

Thia Muilenburg – Vocals, Guitar & Songwriting

Thia is a singer-songwriter with a lifelong passion for singing, writing songs, playing guitar, and the healing power of music. With a master’s degree in expressive therapies, she worked as a music therapist for more than 20 years. Known for her beautiful vocals and acoustic rhythm guitar, she has been gigging solo and with Soulshine since 2019. Thia has released songs on Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms, including her EP, “Full Circle.”

Nick Fallon – Vocals, Lap Guitar & Keys

Nick is a self-taught musician with a lifelong love of singing lead and harmony, composing, and playing both guitar and piano. The question “Where do I put my fingers to make the sounds in my head” has taken him, by ear, from classical to jazz with many stops along the way. That approach, which began on piano, led him to a unique “lap-guitar” playing style shared by few others, Jeff Healey being one of the most notable. A Jupiter local formerly in the duo “M & N,” Nick has been playing with The Soulshine Band since 2025.

Tommy Strauss – Drums & Percussion

Tommy is a rhythm master who plays drums and percussion in Soulshine and other South Florida bands, and brings the beat on congas and other hand percussion. He switched from piano to drums at age 10 and has never looked back. After a 40-year business career in New Jersey, where he played in many bands, Tommy retired and now enjoys being part of the South Florida music community, playing with The Soulshine Band since 2022.

Special Guests
Alan Giana – Woodwinds

Alan is a multi-talented artist and musician who plays sax, flute, fiddle, and more on the Aerophone. His career as a visual artist has brought him worldwide notoriety over the past thirty-plus years, but music has been his lifelong passion, and he enjoys sharing his musical gifts with Soulshine.

Robert Voorhees – Vocals & Bass

Robert is a multi-talented musician with a rich catalog of original songs. A physical therapist by trade, he is dedicated to collaboration and creating healing through music. Influenced by the sounds of Memphis, Nashville, and Austin, Robert’s music channels the soulful energy of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Billy Gibbons, and Hayes Carll.

Matt Granat – Guitar

Matt is a native Floridian, born and raised, whose dedication to the craft shows in his soulful riffs and high-energy performances across the South Florida scene. His playing is steeped in the timeless traditions of the greats, bringing a seasoned, guitar-centric edge to every collaboration and live show. Matt also owns Granat Design, a web and graphic design firm he has operated since 1997.

A common thread runs through The Soulshine Band: a belief in music’s power to lift people up. With a former music therapist at the helm and a physical therapist among its guests, the band carries that spirit into every song, sharing the kind of radiant, positive energy its name describes.
