Support the Kid’s Cancer Foundation Toy Drive at Double Roads Tavern

Join Double Roads Tavern in Bringing Joy to the Kid’s Cancer Foundation

It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child, but when a family faces the unimaginable challenge of a pediatric cancer diagnosis, that village becomes more than just support—it becomes a lifeline.
This December, Double Roads Tavern is calling on Jupiter and our surrounding neighbors to be that lifeline. We are thrilled to announce our upcoming Toy Drive in support of the Kid’s Cancer Foundation. We are asking our incredible community to come out on December 13th and 14th to help us make a tangible difference in the lives of local families battling childhood cancer.
While we often associate toy drives with the holiday season, the need for comfort and distraction doesn’t end when the decorations come down. This event isn’t about checking a box for a specific holiday; it’s about providing year-round comfort to children enduring medical events, office visits, and long hospital stays.

The Reality of Childhood Cancer

To understand why your donation matters, we need to look at the reality these children face. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, their world shifts instantly. Days once filled with school, playgrounds, and playdates are suddenly replaced with chemotherapy sessions, endless doctor appointments, and hospital admissions.
The physical toll is immense, but the emotional toll is equally heavy.
One powerful image that stays with us features a young cancer patient adorned with a long string of beads. At first glance, it looks like a colorful accessory. But upon closer inspection, you realize that every single bead represents a medical event she endured.
Each shape corresponds to a specific procedure: a square for a doctor’s visit, a round bead for a shot, a star for surgery. That necklace wrapped around her small shoulders five times. It is a stark, visual illustration of the significant challenges she—and thousands of other children—face daily.

How Your Donation Helps

The toys we are collecting serve a dual purpose.
First, they provide a much-needed distraction and a moment of joy for the patient. A new toy can turn a terrifying doctor’s visit into a bearable one. It can offer a comforting companion during a lonely night in a hospital bed. It allows a child to just be a kid, even if only for a few hours.
Second, we cannot forget the siblings. A cancer diagnosis affects the entire family ecosystem. Siblings often feel confused, scared, and sometimes unintentionally overlooked as parents focus on the urgent medical needs of the sick child. This Toy Drive ensures that no child feels left out during these challenging times. We want to bring smiles to the brothers and sisters who are also navigating this difficult journey alongside their siblings.

Donation Guidelines

To ensure the safety and health of immunocompromised children, we have a few simple requests for your donations:

  • Condition: All toys must be new. Used items, no matter how gently loved, cannot be accepted due to infection risks.
  • Packaging: Please ensure items are unopened.
  • Presentation: We kindly ask that donations remain unwrapped. This allows the staff to match the right toy with the right child based on age and interest.

About the Kid’s Cancer Foundation

The beneficiary of our drive is an organization that is near and dear to our hearts. The Kid’s Cancer Foundation provides hope and support to our young patients and their families right here in our community.
Founded in 2001 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, their mission is simple yet profound: to provide hope and support to local children and families battling childhood cancer. They accomplish this by providing compassionate, easily accessible supportive care services.
While doctors and nurses work tirelessly to cure the cancer physically, families need more than just medical help. They need emotional support, financial guidance, and a sense of community to get through this stressful and fearful time. The Kid’s Cancer Foundation steps in to fill this void, ensuring that no family has to walk this path alone.

Let’s Show What Our Community is Made Of

Jupiter has always been a community that cares. We look out for our neighbors, and we stand up for those in need. Now is the time to come together and make an impact on some innocent lives.
Whether you are a regular at Double Roads Tavern or someone just hearing about us for the first time, we invite you to join us. Stop by, drop off a toy, and know that you are brightening a dark day for a local child.
Let’s show these families that they have a village behind them. Let’s show them that their struggle is seen, and that their happiness matters.
